Synergy and Waldorf Schools
Waldorf Approach
Rudolf Steiner recognised the importance of creative and expressive energy in the human potential. Therefore the mediums of art and music are used as multiple languages of the children. Imagination and fantasy are integral to creative work and as such children are encouraged to explore these
elements within themselves. The importance of relationships is also recognised in the Waldorf approach as the children retain the same class teacher
for a seven year cycle. Like Montessori, Steiner also had the vision of creating dynamic individual people who celebrated their uniqueness.
At Synergy School we believe we take this understanding to a much more detailed and intimate level. By being an open approach we are not bound by specific ideals, branding and theory. The SynEDgy Schooling approach is eclectic in that it continuously assesses and works towards improving our understanding of human development and the process of education in relation to it. The schooling environment is first and foremost a political and ethical arena. It is within this domain that children create their fundamental understandings of the world and of the relations that co-exist within it. It is within these environments that culture is not learnt, but created. It is within these settings and interactions that the children, the parents and the community develop and create shared meanings. In these
formative years the children internalise the values which will make up their present and future actions, ideas and more importantly, their relationships
to the environment, their communities and their families.
Synergy school is such an environment. It recognises the importance not only of, but brings to the fore, the understandings of the social dynamics that impact on personal development. With this consciousness it facilitates the environment to support the individuals and groups in their understanding and articulation of their meaning and personal experiences.
